Thunder Bay Continues to Lead in Homelessness Data Collection: 2025 Point-in-Time Count Completed
The Lakehead Social Planning Council (LSPC) has successfully completed Thunder Bay’s 2025 Point-in-Time (PiT) Count on October 9, 2025, marking another important step in the community’s ongoing effort to understand and respond to homelessness.
Conducted as an administrative count, the 2025 PiT focused on identifying where individuals experiencing homelessness spent the night across Thunder Bay. While no volunteers were used in this year’s process, the data collected provides essential information for service planning and coordination within the local homelessness system.
As the region’s lead in homelessness data collection and analysis, LSPC, alongside Lakehead University, which manages the Homeless Individuals and Families Information System (HIFIS), continues to ensure Thunder Bay’s data is accurate, consistent, and used effectively to inform solutions.
This latest count builds on the findings presented in the Comparative Point-in-Time Report (2016–2024) — a comprehensive analysis of homelessness trends over nearly a decade. The addition of 2025 data further strengthens Thunder Bay’s evidence base and demonstrates its leadership in data-driven system planning.
With continued collaboration between LSPC, Lakehead University, and community partners such as the Thunder Bay Indigenous Friendship Centre (TBIFC), Thunder Bay remains at the forefront of advancing knowledge and action on homelessness — building a stronger, more coordinated system for all.
