ILRC Thunder Bay’s AccessAbility Week 2024: Map Mission Event, held on May 31st at 11 AM, brought together community partners and participants in a collaborative effort to enhance accessibility in Thunder Bay. In partnership with the AccessNow App, we focused on mapping downtown Port Arthur and adding essential accessibility information to the app.
AccessNow is a mobile app that shares accessibility information about places worldwide. By mapping the accessibility of local businesses, AccessNow helps people with disabilities navigate their communities with greater ease and confidence.
This initiative not only helped identify accessibility but also sparked meaningful conversations with local businesses about the importance of accessibility. These discussions emphasized the need for businesses to prioritize inclusivity and make it easier for individuals with disabilities to navigate our community.
The event showcased the power of collective action in driving change, ensuring that Thunder Bay becomes a more accessible community where everyone knows their options without facing unnecessary barriers.
