Thunder Bay Community Foundation Grants $820,309 in 2023!
On November 30, 2023, the Thunder Bay Community Foundation held our annual Grant Reception. This important event recognizes and appreciates our donors, volunteers, and charities who make a great impact on our community. Each fall, the Thunder Bay Community Foundation accepts online grant applications from charities in the Thunder Bay and District Areas. Without the tremendous support of our generous donors, the incredible work our local charities are doing and our volunteer Grant Selection Committee, the Thunder Bay Community Foundation Grants would not be possible.
We are announcing that $820,309 was given to deserving students and charities throughout 2023. This consists of Student Awards, Donor Directed Donations, the Community Services Recovery Fund Grants, and Community Grants.
Hospice Northwest, along with, 19 other charities in the Thunder Bay and District Area received 31 Community Grants this year totaling $209,600.
Cherie Kok, Executive Director at Hospice Northwest expressed, “The Thunder Bay Community Foundation is the best thing since sliced bread for a small non-profit organization. Many of the 20 organizations, receiving funding do not have enough or ANY core funding to be able to deliver on many of our services. The Foundation allows many of us to support more and do more for the vulnerable in Thunder Bay.”
Some of the projects making a positive difference in our community, thanks to the 2023 grants, include:
- Hospice Northwest – Client Self Care Kits
- Canadian National Institute for the Blind – Dream Weaver Arts Project
- Boys & Girls Clubs of Thunder Bay – Technology Upgrade
- John Ambulance – Therapy Dog Unit
