Wasaya – United Way Plane Pull


Plane Pull is BACK!

IT’S OUR 5TH ANNIVERSARY!!

The United Way of Thunder Bay and Wasaya Airways are proud to announce the return of the Wasaya – United Way Plane Pull on Saturday, September 23, 2023 in support of the United Way of Thunder Bay and the Northwestern Ontario Indigenous Youth Achievement and Recognition Awards!

Get ready for the ultimate tug-of-war challenge and test your team’s strength. Teams will race to pull a plane weighing MORE THAN 26,000 lbs. over 50 feet and the fastest time will win!

Each team can have up to 8 members, however, only 6 can pull the plane at a time so you can rotate team members out for different pulls. Each team will have three turns at pulling the plane.

After round three, all times will be added up and teams will be split into divisions and the top two in each division will showdown in one final pull.

The goal…to pull an airplane across the finish line in the fastest time. 

Details:

This one-day event brings together participants in a friendly competition while raising funds for important programs and events.

Date: Saturday September 23rd  
Cost: $200 per team – Includes a swag bag, lunch for each participant & chance to win awesome prizes
Event Time:  10am – 3pm (team check in begins at 9:30am)
Location: Wasaya Hangar at the Thunder Bay International Airport located at 201 Kelner Place

Stronger Together: Thunder Bay Nonprofit Gathering


This event is co-hosted by Ontario Nonprofit Network (ONN) and North Superior Workforce Planning Board.

This gathering is an opportunity for nonprofits, charities, and community organizations in the Thunder Bay/NW Ontario region to connect, deepen relationships, and discuss big-picture issues with a local lens to work together for a thriving nonprofit environment.

What to expect:

  • Provincial scope: Learn about and discuss policies, strategies, and partnerships happening in Ontario’s nonprofit sector.
  • Local focus: Discuss how broader issues and trends are showing up locally and in different contexts
  • Strategize and collaborate with a network approach to address key issues facing the Ontario nonprofit sector
  • Enjoy a light breakfast and lunch with nonprofit colleagues – register early to guarantee your dietary needs are met!
  • After the event, all registrants will be emailed slides, notes and links to resources.

Location: “Solarium” room at the Slovak Legion – 801 Atlantic Ave, Thunder Bay, ON P7C 2T3

Cost: $30 for ONN members and $40 for non-members (includes a light breakfast and lunch)

The Giant Food Drive


Date: Saturday, September 16, 2023

Hours: 10:00am – 4:00pm

Details:

The Giant Food Drive will see a number of activities take place all week long, culminating in a massive city-wide food donation collection at grocery stores and supermarkets across Thunder Bay, Nipigon and Red Rock. Shoppers will also have the opportunity to make monetary contributions.

Participating grocery outlets will host volunteers from services clubs, schools, community groups and workplaces to collect non-perishable food items on Saturday, September 16 from 10:00am – 4:00pm.

12th Annual Hike for Hospice: May 28, 2023

Hike for Hospice is Hospice Northwest’s only major fundraising event of the year. Together, we have raised over $550,000 for palliative care in our community since 2012! Once again this year, we are offering both an in-person and a virtual event for all those who want to support the Hike.

Join us on May 28th at St. Ignatius High School for our pre-Hike festivities from 9 – 10 am.  We will then meet across the street at Boulevard Lake Park to begin our 12th Annual Hike for Hospice!

We will have local vendors, food, a kid’s area with clowns, a bagpiper, musical entertainment and more to celebrate the 2023 Hike for Hospice.
