Since 2018, Thunder Bay Public Library has opened Indigenous Knowledge Centres (IKCs) at all four branches, starting with the Waverley Resource Library. These centres provide educational materials on Indigenous history, treaties, residential schools, and works by Indigenous curators. Organized by themes identified by our Indigenous community, these resources are easily accessible, with translated shelf signage honoring the Objibwe language. This initiative aligns with our mission of fostering social inclusion, lifelong learning, and community well-being, as part of our Relationship Building and Reconciliation Action Plan.
