“CLEAN, GREEN & BEAUTIFUL” AWARD
The Riparian Habitat Rehabilitation Project has made significant contributions to environmental preservation and community engagement over the past two years. This project emphasizes environmental restoration, rehabilitation, improved water quality, and enhanced stormwater retention while encouraging biodiversity and supporting climate change adaptation.
The key aspects and benefits include:
- Planting native shrubs, grasses, perennials, and trees to establish a diverse and robust ecosystem.
- Establishing No Mow Zones.
- Implementing two Rain Gardens.
- Creating The Bike Locker, a secure bicycle parking facility which promotes active transportation.
- Installing signage to educate about the benefits and impacts of these changes.
- Providing hands-on experience for students in the Environmental Technician program as they helped design, develop, and construct the rain gardens as part of their coursework.
- Planting a Truth and Reconciliation tree in a no mow zone, which serves as a meaningful tribute and helps the community reflect on the importance of reconciliation.
Congratulations to Confederation College, which has clearly demonstrated the importance of sustainability, education, and community involvement in building a greener future for everyone.
