Thunder Bay Co-Op Farm Supplies

“LOOKING GOOD” AWARD

The expansion and redesign of the existing retail storefront have brought substantial benefits by addressing the retail gap in the area for limited hardware and home goods. While the store doesn’t aim to compete directly with large chain stores, its expanded retail space and product offerings provide a local solution that caters to both full-time and seasonal residents.

  • The retail space and office were expanded from 1,220 sq ft to 4,200 sq ft, providing a much larger area to display a wider variety of products and offer customers a more comprehensive shopping experience.
  • Working with Approach Design, they have reduced energy consumption, created natural light, replaced the septic system, and resurfaced the driveway to modern standards.
  • A Community Hub was added, where neighbours can meet, host yard sales and events, and accommodate local food vendors. The creation of a “Community Board Room,” a separate meeting space with access to the kitchen, allows non-affiliated community groups to use the facilities after hours.
  • Improved retail space, added cash terminals, and a dedicated area for metal roofing sales have allowed for longer consultations and better traffic flow.
  • The expansion took into account the needs of the staff, creating a dedicated lunch and break room with a full kitchen on the second floor. This provides staff with a true break space and contributes to a more positive work environment.

The overall impact of the expansion and redesign has been highly positive, benefiting customers, staff, and fostering stronger community connections. Thunder Bay Co-op Farm Supplies – you sure are looking good!
