Ontario Provincial Police (OPP)
Every year, members of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) – North West Region gear up to support the United Way of Thunder Bay through a variety of fundraising campaigns and initiatives that aid in supporting those in our communities.
For the second year in a row, OPP Detachments across the North West Region are partnering with the United Way of Thunder Bay for their annual Tampon Tuesday initiative, which is aimed to raise awareness and collect feminine hygiene products to help address period poverty in our communities. Last year, detachments across the North West Region collectively donated approximately 9,000 feminine products along with other hygiene related items such as shampoo, soap, toothpaste, etc., to local agencies who support vulnerable people. Donations of this multitude have an incredible impact locally to our communities. The OPP are passionate about empowering and supporting the communities we serve. Approximately one in seven individuals struggle to get period products and often have to choose between feeding their family and being able to afford clean menstrual hygiene products. This initiative aligns with the OPP’s vision of Safe Communities… A Secure Ontario, which is why we will continue to support agencies who give back to our communities.
