Ray Jarvinen, ITEC

“BUSINESS PERSON OF THE YEAR” AWARD

The vision is to focus and invest the necessary time, resources, and energy to be an industry leader in Northwestern Ontario. Initiatives are ever-changing; adding branch locations, a new entity, constructing buildings, investing in equipment, adding international product lines, upgrading technology, and creating new task-specific roles within the company. The belief is that there is no place for hierarchy in business. Position, tenure, or ownership status does not add value to one employee over another. It is important to invest resources in your team as much as it is in daily operations; hosting team building events, educational workshops, cultural training, creating employee flexibility, hiring people with special needs, and creating an inclusive and welcoming work environment.

Experience has shown that effective leadership is built on honesty and transparent communication and using talent and experience to solve issues or help in the decision-making process. Not being satisfied with the status quo and aiming to develop products and services that improve customer efficiency is key. Building strong honest relationships with customers and suppliers, knowing that each is as important to our success, tackling challenges straight on, and embracing all-things technology for continued increase of productivity and service delivery is imperative. And perhaps the most important is the team’s commitment to the community by volunteering not only funds but also time together in an effort to help others in need. In the past year, we helped over 40 local organizations.

“He has always held a strong belief in the potential of our region and Thunder Bay as a great place to raise a family and be successful in business and says, “We are Northern Ontarians. We are proud of where we live, what we do, and how we do it.”

Ray Jarvinen from ITEC, we are proud of you and welcome you as the Thunder Bay Chamber of Commerce Business Person of the Year.”
