Thunder Bay and District Labour Council
Thunder Bay and District Labour Council is an affiliate of the Canadian Labour Congress. We are an affiliation of local unions. We are nurses, government workers, correction officers, social workers, teachers, bus drivers, electricians, postal workers; PSWs, DSW’s, machinists and many, many more. We get together to support each other and to educate and advocate in the community on labour issues, social issues and economic issues.
We are also mothers, fathers, sisters and brothers, grandparents and friends.
TBDLC supported Tampon Tuesday from the onset. Most of our affiliate unions have active women’s committees who have educated use on period poverty if we haven’t experienced it ourselves through our own life experience or work experience. We know girls are missing school because they don’t have products needed and no money to pay for them in the family budget. We know mothers are having to choose between buying pads so you can go to work or buying milk for your kid’s cereal, three days before payday. Our members have seen the young woman in the drug store shoplifting tampons and ignored it.
We support Tampon Tuesday and more than that! We support access to free feminine hygiene products to anyone that needs them. It’s about equality, equity and justice for women and girls.
